Overview:

With minimal to no supervision, this position designs, administers, maintains and provides technical support for Metro Data's network, server and microcomputer client systems and services.

Responsibilities may include the coverage and scheduling of help desk tickets and change requests, taking lead roles on projects for corporate-wide IT initiatives, mentoring members of enterprise IT operations on systems integration and operations, ensuring systems compatibility and standards of configuration are maintained on all new and existing systems and promoting IT best practices.

Due to the nature of this position, and the requirement for extended coverage, this position may be required to work hours outside of a regular schedule.

Responsibilities:

  1. Takes the primary role as project leader and designer of new IT technology initiatives. Provides formal project management documentation and partners with other IT analysts to ensure the successful transition and operation of these new technologies.
  2. Designs effective processes for the roll-out and continued services of all IT initiatives which include computer deliveries and support functions.
  3. Develops and tests implementation plans for all new systems and services. Ensures new systems are compatible with existing systems and IT infrastructure.
  4. Maintains technical documentation, to include the development and publication of standard operating procedures for systems and processes under their control.
  5. Keeps abreast of new and developing IT technologies in order to recommend network, server, system and service improvements or upgrades to enhance or correct system performance.
  6. Ensures the proper administration and maintenance of all computer network systems and services under their control to ensure optimum performance and reliability. These may include network mobility, Intranet, Internet, email, backup, production servers and disaster recovery capabilities.
  7. Monitors and adjusts configurations as necessary to resolve problems and to enhance capabilities and performance.
  8. Ensures all project and daily task schedules are maintained.
  9. Responds to critical after hours support issues.
  10. Coordinates resources necessary to help resolve network problems or issues that involve other IT directorate groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or equivalent experience in a related field; graduate level coursework desirable.
  • Normally seven or more years experience supporting computer software, hardware, associated peripherals, networks and computer user support.
  • Six years experience in network or system administration and/or trouble-shooting networked systems. Must have a working knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, media converters, network cabling, e-mail and web services, and remote access methodologies.
  • Six years experience with the Windows operating systems; experience supporting a multiplatform environment to include Linux, Windows and Mac desired.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form and with all levels of employees; possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to work hours outside of a regular schedule.
  • Experience in network management or server management.
