Baltimore Animal Shelter (BARCS) launches new web site

Community Outreach - Dec 30, 2004

Metro Data, Inc. donates domain name, web site and hosting for the Baltimore City Animal Shelter (

The Baltimore City Animal Shelter was formerly operated under the Baltimore City Health Department.  The shelter had no web site of their own (other than some simple information pages which were buried on the Health Dept. site).  The new web site was launched to coincide with Baltimore's reorganization of its animal shelter into a 501(c)(3) non-profit and renamed it the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS).

Working with new Director of Animal Welfare, Ms. Jennifer Meade, along with her staff & volunteers, Metro Data has developed a new web presence that BARCS can call their own!

About Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter

In recognizing the need to have a city animal shelter that serves as a true resource for the people and animals of Baltimore, the city has reorganized its animal shelter into a 501(c)(3) non-profit and renamed it the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS.)  This means that in addition to receiving funding from Baltimore City, BARCS now has the critical ability to raise private funding from the community and significantly enhance its volunteer efforts.  There are approximately 355,000 pets in the city of Baltimore. BARCS receives an estimated 11,000 unwanted, abused, or stray animals each year. While many people think of the shelter as just a place for dogs and cats, BARCS helps all types of animals.

BARCS is located at 301 Stockholm Street, Baltimore, Maryland  21230
